At Platinum Yoga, we strongly encourage yogis (and everyone else too!) to eat clean and eat right. Once in awhile we all succumb to sweet temptations in the form of a slice of cake, a cookie or ice-cream. We’re not saying it’s wrong but how about a healthier alternative to curb your sweet tooth cravings?

Platinum Yoga has partnered with Snack & Shape to bring you a range of energy & protein bars. When we think of energy or protein bars, we think of healthy tried-and-tested flavour combinations right? Snack & Shape has brought us unique blends of native Australian ingredients. Anybody ever heard of Quandong or Kakadu Plum? Those are the ingredients in the Australian Superfood Raw Bars range. Another range offers familiar flavours such as Cookies & Cream and Salted Caramel. So you can guess how excited the Platinum Yoga team was when we received the samples!

The first range from Snack & Shape is their Rawfusion Bars from which you can choose between the Chocolate Coconut Chunk and the Almond Berry.

Between the two, we were more fond of the Almond Berry. The Chocolate Coconut Chunk had a really strong coconut taste and the texture was similar to that of dessicated coconut. We found the combination of organic almond butter and organic berries in the Almond Berry balanced out the flavour of the plant proteins well and the aftertaste was not as overwhelming. We voted this range our least favourite.

The second range is the Australian Superfood Raw Bars from which there are 4 varieties:-

  • Dessert Tribe Tropical (with Quandong & Kakadu Plum)
  • Wattleseed Husk, Cacao (with Coconut & Wattleseed)
  • Lemon Seed Wonder (with Lemon Myrtle & Finger Lime)
  • Ancient Rainforest Berry (with Riberry & Davidson Plum)

The best-seller for this range is the Lemon Seed Wonder and we totally agree. The blend of Lemon Myrtle, Finger Lime, Wattleseed, Quandong, Davidson Plum and Kakadu Plum really stood out for us with its mixture of sweet and sour. Did you know the finger lime has 3 times more Vitamin C content than in mandarins? Or that the Kakadu Plum has 5 times more antioxidant capacity as blueberries and contains the highest known amount of Vitamin C in any plant? Neither did we, no wonder they’re called superfoods! Though the Wattleseed Husk, Cacao came in close with its sweet, nutty and slightly spicy flavour.

The third range from Snack & Shape is the Protein FX Mini Lo Carb Protein Bars with a wide selection of familiar flavours.

  • Choc Raspberry
  • Choc Honeycomb
  • Choc Caramel
  • Rocky Road
  • Cookies & Cream
  • Salted Caramel
  • Peanut Butter Caramel

The bars from this range are a bit sweeter and they are chewier in texture compared to the previous 2 ranges. It was hard to pick just one flavour but we have to say the winner is the Choc Honeycomb bar. The honeycomb tasted almost malt-like and buttery which complemented the outer chocolate layer. We almost believed this was a real chocolate bar!

The final range is the bigger fibre-packed version of the Mini Lo Carb bars, Protein FX Fibre Crunch where they offer 3 delicious combinations:- Honey Almond Milk Chocolate, Blueberry Almond Dark Chocolate and Coconut & Lemon Milk Chocolate.

We went with the Honey Almond Dark Chocolate option for this range. There is a distinct taste of honey and roasted almonds in this bar. The interior of the bar is like a wafer with a thin coating of chocolate that doesn’t overpower the flavour of the protein and seeds. Similar to the mini bars, this was just like a real candy bar.
