INTRODUCTION TO MEDITATION

A simple and fast way to reduce stress. That’s something we all need in our lives.

We all know stress makes us feel anxious and worried and leaves us feeling tense. Did you know – meditation can wipe away the day’s chaos, and replace it with inner peace?

Meditation is simple, requires no equipment or prop and it’s free. Anyone can set aside 10 minutes a day to meditate. And you can practice wherever you are – while you’re on the MRT back home, while you’re out walking and even during a busy work day.

Some may see meditation as just sitting aside and closing your eyes. Well, it’s not just about taking a rest. It’s not so easy to sit quietly and do nothing for 10 minutes you know! You try and sit for 10 minutes and just focus on your breathing. You’ll find that all sorts of thoughts run through your mind, you hear distracting noises in the distance and your hands are itching to just move. Ironic isn’t it? When you’re trying to sit still and quieten your mind, that’s when it becomes noisier and more chaotic. It’s like trying to stop the wind from blustering.

Meditation does give you a lot of emotional benefits such as helping you see stressful situations from a new perspective, equipping you with the skills to manage your stress levels, increasing your self-awareness and focusing more on yourself and the present.

It’s a way to reduce stress and train our minds to focus and redirect our thoughts. But meditation is also a method for us to develop good habits such as self-discipline, healthy sleep patterns and even increased pain tolerance.

And you’ll find that over time, the more you sit, the quieter your mind becomes. The easier it is for you to let the thoughts pass through and let go. And you will feel a lot better afterwards. Maybe meditation is not always about concentration and focusing your thoughts on one thing at a time. It’s also about becoming still, empty and thoughtless.

We want to help you de-stress and heal, not only during your busy days, but through the rest of the year. Let’s start with this Introduction to Meditation workshop with Teacher Claudia on the 3rd of February 2018 at our Westgate studio. Click the button below to register!
