International Yoga Day is just around the corner, and here at Platinum Yoga, we are gearing up to celebrate it in a truly special way. This year, we invite you to join us for an invigorating and meditative experience featuring 108 Sun Salutations followed by a calming Yoga Nidra session. This free event is designed to rejuvenate your body, mind, and spirit, and it’s open to everyone. Let’s delve into why performing 108 Sun Salutations is so powerful and what you can expect from our celebration.

Why Perform 108 Sun Salutations?

Sun Salutations, or Surya Namaskar, are a series of yoga poses that flow seamlessly into one another. Performing 108 Sun Salutations holds deep significance in the yoga community. Here are some reasons why:

  1. Symbolic Number: Firstly, the number 108 is considered sacred in many cultures. It is believed to represent completeness and the wholeness of existence. In yoga, chanting mantras 108 times is common, and completing 108 Sun Salutations is a powerful practice.
  2. Full-Body Workout: Moreover, performing 108 Sun Salutations engages every muscle group, promoting strength, flexibility, and endurance. It is a comprehensive workout that tones muscles, improves posture, and enhances physical fitness.
  3. Cardiovascular Health: Additionally, the continuous flow of movements increases heart rate and circulation, providing cardiovascular benefits akin to aerobic exercises. This helps maintain heart health and improve stamina.
  4. Detoxification: Furthermore, the rhythmic movements and deep breathing stimulate the lymphatic system, aiding in the removal of toxins from the body. Sweating during the practice further enhances detoxification.
  5. Chakra Activation: Moreover, Sun Salutations stimulate and balance the body’s energy centers, or chakras. This practice helps to open and align these energy pathways, promoting overall energetic health.
  6. Grounding and Centering: Additionally, the ritual of performing 108 Sun Salutations can be a grounding and centering experience, bringing practitioners into the present moment and fostering a sense of inner peace and harmony.
  7. Meditative Flow: Furthermore, the repetitive nature of Sun Salutations creates a meditative flow, calming the mind and reducing stress and anxiety. This moving meditation helps practitioners achieve mental clarity and emotional balance.
  8. Mind-Body Connection: Also, the synchronization of breath with movement fosters a deep connection between the mind and body. This awareness cultivates mindfulness, enhancing overall mental well-being.
  9. Shared Experience: Additionally, practicing 108 Sun Salutations in a group setting creates a powerful collective energy. This shared experience enhances motivation, support, and a sense of community among participants.
  10. Symbolic Unity: Lastly, coming together to perform this practice symbolizes unity and collective intention. It is a beautiful way to celebrate connection, both within the yoga community and with the broader world.

How We Plan to Celebrate International Yoga Day :

At Platinum Yoga, we believe in celebrating International Yoga Day by embracing the holistic benefits of yoga. This year, our special event will combine the vigorous practice of 108 Sun Salutations with the soothing and restorative practice of Yoga Nidra.

Yoga Nidra, often referred to as yogic sleep, is a guided meditation practice that brings you into a state of deep relaxation. After the physical exertion of 108 Sun Salutations, Yoga Nidra will help you enter a state of complete rest, rejuvenating your mind and body.
