THIS IS NOT YOGA – MAYBE IT IS?

IS THIS REALLY YOGA? MAYBE IT IS?

Spoilt by tons of choices in the market as to how we take our time to scrutinize, compare and decide on which is the best shop to make your purchase. The same thought goes to Yoga.

  • YOGA + DANCE

You may call it Yoga Dance. It is a synchronized movement with music, with music of course that led you to move rhythmically like a ballet dancer swaying side to side with a combination of ‘Yoga’ poses. You probably might have miss the ‘pose’ since it is delightfully designed to practice in a ‘dance mood’ as oppose to a meditative state or static movement.

  • GYMNASTIC MOVEMENT + YOGA

Maybe we can best equate this with Vinyasa practice. You probably might have seen it in Instagram –  handstand flow to l-sit and then to bakasana before jumping back to chaturanga. Seriously, before you attempt that, are you strong enough to handle such practice? It looks like a gymnastic movement if you see practitioners pressing into a straddle handstand. Yes, you may practice this in Hatha 2 or Inversion classes. We felt this should not be the focus of your practice but rather a result of consistent and dedication that these incredible movement will come naturally. We suggest you to understand the whole purpose and benefit you could obtain from practicing inversion and arm balances.

  • CHANTING + YOGA
  1. It’s not about religion yo! Sanskit is one of the most beautiful crafted words that is created with positive vibes. The sound of ‘OM’ allows the awakening of your whole body including your senses and nervous systems preparing for the practice. If you’re not comfortable of chanting, just sit still, meditate and embrace the sound of chanting within the studio.

  • YOGA THAT IS DESIGNED FOR MEN

Well, practically Yoga is meant for all. And brutally honest Yoga does look much easier if you’re a women. Men would probably have the strength but not flexibility and it is vice versa for women. The secret of Yin and Yang is one of the best combination (strong and supple but yet attainable). Isn’t this good to have a mix of men and women in a class to complement each other.  Yoga for men is really designed to support the mens’ community but we would urge you to see it as a wholesome ‘plural’ activity rather than a ‘singular’ practice.
